Enjoying the Holiday Season

Happy 2013 !
So my New Years resolution should be to post more to this blog, but don't count on it.  I have a new found respect for DIY bloggers, it's enough work to keep up with the projects let alone blog about it.  So here is the project we've be working on.  The family room is pretty much empty because we are still deciding on what exactly we want that room to feel like, so in the mean time, we've at least painted the walls, painted the awful rock fireplace and added a door to the entry way that leads down stairs.

So above is what it looked like once we painted the walls, so much better than the previous pinky coral color ...

I am not sure why the previous owners felt compelled to add a fireplace in the 90's. There is no way we will ever need nor want this in Florida, but for now we are living with it, and trying to cover it up with art and what not...

On Christmas wkend we started painting the rock, it was actually easier than expected.

This is what it looks like now, still a long ways from complete, but better than before.

Rearranging and what we learned...

So we seriously rearranged our living room today. We bought a great sideboard and mirror yesterday that I love and works so great in this house, but what we learned is that any time we spend money on this house, it only reveals further where we need to spend MORE money. The room looks better and much different as you will see below, but we desparetly need to paint and add different pieces. As Larry always says "we have 30 years babe", I hope he's referring to the mortgage payments left, and not the amount of time he's giving our marriage. :)

It's Been Awhile

I am sorry to say that is has almost been a month since my last photo, and even more sorry to say very little has been done since then.  It's been a busy month and will probably continue until the year's end at this point.  I did go thru and take a some photos though of pretty much the whole house, very few secret spots are left after this post.  Just keep in mind these are all "before pics", it's only been 60 days since closing.

our guest bed with our wedding quilt on it.

don't get attached to the bathroom above, we for sure are not.  It will be gutted to studs by the end of January.   In the mean time we will be using the one below ( and possibly the secret bathroom yet to be shown)

the "blk and white" bathroom as we call it is currently pretty much just Larry's domain.

This is our room for now....

this is the extra room, it is attached to the blk and white bathroom, making it a possibly option for a master some day, but we are still deciding.  For now it is just a large expanse, best for my yoga room, see below.

the empty family room as seen earlier in the blog, now has a few more peices of furniture, but not many.

more pics of our living room, not much has changed lately on the front

The hippies have moved in....

Notice anything missing?  Palm trees maybe?  Yep, they have relocated to the back yard.  The whole front got a face lift, in fact it is different today than it was 6 days ago when we took this photo.  New to follow soon enough.  I'll just be happier when this all starts to grow in and not looked so sad

So this is why I am saying the hippies have moved in, we cut up bamboo today (given to us by our neighbor) and made a compost bin.   Next to it you can see where one of the palms is temporarily located.

this was today's junk find, free set from the dumpster.  I am excited to fix these up and get them in the Florida room

Our glider...
Just trying to get some photos in for the"before set". This is the door off of our florida room, the foundation is now purple vs. brick red, our one small improvement.

So, you see the hippies have really arrived,...

House Sitters

So, we left our home and dog in the care of my parents for the weekend while we visited family in the Northeast. See below for what we came home to. Pretty drastic changes without consulting the home owners, but we were estatic non-the-less.

I HEART MY STUDIO

So this time last year I clearly remember thinking daily how much I need a space to work in, I needed somewhere to do crafts and mess with things, I just kept picturing an open space that had easy access to the outdoors and electricity. Well, in April when we looked at this house for the first time I found it. The very last room of the house is technically a MIL suite equipt with an old farm sink and cupboard, a rando bathroom off of it, and it's own entry. I FELL IN LOVE. This is what I needed!  Well, 2 weeks into living here I am already starting to use it. Nothing major, I just sanded down 2 chairs that I would like to paint next week. Still it was wonderful to have the space to do it. Ok - this got long.

Sorry it's been a few days since the last post. I'll get better !!

the room is huge- I have a gigantic picnic table and a large work bench (not photographed) in it right now and still plenty of room.

early phases

so this is the current state of the living room, truly sparse and awful, but it feels like home for me for now

hopefully this will be the last day of the bistro table in the breakfast nook, I have another temp table that should be set up soon if LB can get to it

here is the view from the living room looking into the kitchen and then into the (empty) family room.   The door way you see on the left open up in the short flight of steps down to the eventual master bedroom.  Someday I'll get a floor plan on here.
